“Bridgerton” fans are waiting impatiently for the new episodes of Bridgerton season 3, but currently a little more patience is required. When and how it continues, you can read here.
The streaming service Netflix shows its trust in “Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes and her production company, which landed an absolute hit with “Bridgerton“: Even before the start of Season 2, Seasons 3 and 4 have also been given the green light. So the future of the romantic historical series is secure. You can find everything we know about the third season of “Bridgerton”.
Bridgerton: What is it about?
The plot focuses on two wealthy families, the Bridgertons and the Featheringtons, and the marriage market of London’s high society in 1813. While Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) enjoys a high rank as a widow with eight children, she looks anxiously to the upcoming ball season. The reason: her eldest daughter Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), is a debutante and will be presented to the British Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel).
Daphne receives numerous offers in search of a husband, but she makes a secret pact with, of all people, the eternal bachelor Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), who is also Duke of Hastings. While he vows not to marry, Daphne wants to find the right man for life in his presence, someone she can truly love. She is not interested in him, as she tells him several times.
Also in focus are Daphne’s seven siblings, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Featherington (Ben Miller and Polly Walker), whose three daughters Prudence (Bessie Carter), Philippa (Harriet Cains) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) are also on the marriage market and looking for a husband. Further gossip is provided by the mysterious Lady Whistledown (Julie Andrews as narrator), who guides the rest of high society through the ball season with her newspaper column and snarky comments.
Bridgerton: Background
Published under a pseudonym, Julie Pottinger, aka Julia Quinn, wrote eight novels about the eight children of the “Bridgerton” family. In 2018, Netflix commissioned the series adaptation under the supervision of Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy”). On December 25, 2020, Netflix subscribers were able to check out the finished first season on the streaming service. The interest in romantic stories and opulent costumes seemed enormous, and the series’ viewership set several records.
Bridgerton Season 3 Release Date: Is Bridgerton Season 3 done filming?
Via social media, the actors shared the first moving images from the set, confirming the start of filming as early as summer 2022:
However, after the increased security measures in the wake of the pandemic, “Bridgerton” is now struggling with new problems on set. As Daily Mail UK reported in early January, filming is delayed. The realization of Bridgerton season 3 had become too gloomy for Rhimes, so new shots have to be made. In the meantime, however, all scenes are said to be in the can.
Is Bridgerton coming out with season 3?
Despite this unexpected delay, we still expect the new episodes of Bridgerton season 3 in the second half of 2023.
Bridgerton Season 3 Plot: Who will be in it?
It is planned that Netflix – like in the book by Julia Quinn – will focus on one couple and their love story per season (book). Accordingly, fans were already expecting Bridgerton Season 3 to film the volume “How to Seduce a Lord” and to put Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) at the center of the action. Now, however, we are in for a serious change.
Showrunner Shonda Rhimes and Chis Van Dusen had already hinted at it, and now we also have certainty: The series deviates from the chronology of the book series and presents us in the next season the romance of Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), as Lady Whistledown announced in person (Entertainment Weekly).
In addition, another change is imminent because the love story of Anthony and Kate is not yet wholly told, as reported by ComicBook.com, among others. So, compared to Daphne and Simon, Anthony, and Kate will get some more playtime even after their “own” season.
Bridgerton Season 3 Cast: Will the Duke be in season 3 of Bridgerton?
We expect the Bridgerton siblings to take on more or less significant roles in Season 3, with Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) taking center stage. In addition, Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley are already confirmed as Anthony Bridgerton and his newlywed wife Kate (see above). In contrast, the Duke of Hastings and Regé-Jean Page have departed wholly from their roles; We will most likely see the following actors again in Bridgerton season 3:
- Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton)
- Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne Bridgerton, meanwhile Duchess of Hastings)
- Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton)
- Hanna Dodd (Francesca Bridgerton)
- Will Tilston (Gregory Bridgerton)
- Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton)
- Ruth Gemmel (Lady Violet Bridgerton)
In addition to Hanna Dodd, who replaces Ruby Strokes and will subsequently be seen as Francesca, we expect other exciting new additions. The list will be updated here as soon as unknown names are confirmed.
Bridgeton Season 3 Trailer
We haven’t seen any new clips from the show yet, but the Bridgerton stars have been teasing us with some juicy tidbits from behind the scenes. (That’s what we love about them, right?)
In September, the streamer’s TUDUM event featured a fun segment with Claudie Jessie (Eloise) and Luke Newton (Colin), who chatted about their roles while painting each other’s portraits.
Nicola Coughlan also joined them to reveal the title of the first episode and some hints about what to expect. We’re hooked, so check it out… and join us in counting the days until the show returns.
