- In a way, Ironheart is the spiritual successor to Iron Man.
- After “Black Panther 2,” Riri Williams returns in Disney+’s own “Ironheart” series.
Finally, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” has been released in theaters. The film represents a funeral service for Chadwick Boseman, but also introduces new aspects to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), including the character Riri Williams. She will soon get her own Disney+ series as “Ironheart.”
Scheduled for release in the fall of 2023, the series will be part of the Disney+ novelty lineup and will be a direct continuation of the events of “Black Panther 2.” Actress Dominique Thorne will once again portray Riri Williams.
Marvel: What will we learn about Ironheart in “Black Panther 2”?

Riri Williams is a gifted prodigy who studies at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). There she invents a device that can find vibranium. Her invention is abused by the FBI and eventually used against Wakanda and Talokan. Without her knowledge!
When Namor (Tenoch Huerta) demands her death to protect his vibranium-rich underwater kingdom from the other countries, Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Okoye (Danai Gurira) intervene and bring Riri Williams to Wakanda. There she develops the Ironheart suit she conceived and fights Talokan together with the new Black Panther.
After the victory, she goes back to the U.S. and continues her studies. However, she is not allowed to take her Ironheart suit with her and must leave it in Wakanda. This is what Shuri demands. But that doesn’t mean that Riri Williams won’t develop a new suit soon.
Ironheart: What do we know about the Disney+ series?
Unfortunately, not much is known about the “Ironheart” series yet. Dominique Thorne will once again play Riri Williams and “Black Panther 2” director Ryan Coogler serves as producer of the Disney+ series. “In the Heights” star Anthony Ramos will be seen as the villain The Hood.
As already mentioned, the series picks up directly from the events of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. So, we will accompany Riri in her everyday university life and see her working on her inventions. The series will consist of 6 episodes.
Ironheart: We know this from the Marvel comics!
In the Marvel comics, Riri is also an MIT scholar and a highly gifted prodigy. She loses her father at a young age, and later her stepfather and best friend in a shooting. (It would later turn out that her biological father did not die, but faked the death and joined the Ten Rings).
Riri is working on some sort of Iron Man suit. Successful. She later even gets a visit from Tony Stark, who builds her up to become a superhero. She has many adventures, finds new allies and meets enemies. She also comes into contact with the Ten Rings and meets her father again.
In the MCU, she will probably become part of the Young Avengers sooner or later. With the introduction of Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), Ant-Man’s daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton), Miss America (Xochitl Gomez) and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), there is already a squad of young heroines to make up the team.
Unfortunately, a start date for “Ironheart” has not yet been set. However, filming has been completed in the meantime. Soon we will certainly receive solid info. We are currently listing all new Marvel releases!
