The new series from the creators of “Dark”, 1899, has finally received its first trailer.
- On November 14, 2022 we can expect “1899”, the new project of the “Dark” series makers Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar in cooperation with Netflix.
- Well-known actors from “Peaky Blinders”, “The Witcher”, “Élite”, “The Rain” and “The Wheel of Time” play in the thriller series.

With “1899” , the creators of the hit series “Dark” have developed a new mystery project for Netflix. At the end of September 2022, Netflix finally announced when “1899” Season 1 will be released. We have everything you need to know about the launch, plot, cast and production of the series.
1899: Release date
After a long time only winter 2022 was known as a vague release period, there is now a specific date: “1899” starts on Netflix on November 17th. Eight episodes will end up in the streaming service’s program in one fell swoop that day.
1899: Trailers and Posters
With a first mysterious teaser, the Netflix streaming service announced the new series from the “Dark” makers in June. With its cryptic images and dialogues, it caused great anticipation, especially among “Dark” fans.
Now Netflix is providing us with a first real trailer in which much more is announced about the plot. “1899” apparently tells of a ship full of migrants who want to go from Europe to the USA. It seems, however, that their seven-day trip will be anything but a leisurely cruise.
The crew learns of a missing ship, the Prometheus, which went missing months ago and sent a telegram asking for help a few hours ago. But with that they seem to be digging their own grave, because something strange is happening on the Prometheus.
In addition, Netflix has now published a first poster for the new series via Twitter. This invites the viewer to guess, because here things are anything but right. Here you can see a canyon-like structure in the middle of the sea, which has the shape of a triangle. A ship seems to be steering directly onto the edge and may be in danger of falling into the seemingly endless depths.
As a subtitle, the ominous writing “What is lost will be found” (“What was lost will be found”) is also written above the poster. This poster now strengthens the already existing speculation that “1899” could possibly take up the history of the Bermuda Triangle and the partly inexplicable events on the Atlantic.
1899: Production
“1899” is a Netflix series that was conceived by ” Dark ” creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar. In addition to Friese, the series’ screenwriters are Emil Nygaard Albertsen, Coline Abert, Emma Ko, Jerome Bucchan-Nelson (“Casualty”), Dario Madrona.
The shooting took place in a studio for virtual productions, also called “Volume”, in Babelsberg. With this technology, virtual sets and locations can be projected behind the actors in a way that makes them feel as if they are in the original locations, Netflix said in a statement. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings was thrilled with the production
The project is funded by the German Motion Picture Fund of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) and by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. In addition, the Ministry of Economics, Labor and Energy of the State of Brandenburg is providing funding from the “Joint Task for the Improvement of the Regional Economic Structure” program.

1899: Action
“1899” is a history series with horror elements. This is about a group of migrants from all over Europe who make their way to the USA at the end of the 19th century with the desire for a better future. On the high seas, they meet a second emigrant ship that changes their journey in an unpleasant way. Because what they discover on the ship makes their worst nightmares come true.

The cast of the series is international. Among others we will see Emily Beecham (“Cruella”), Aneurin Barnard (“Dunkrik”), Andreas Pietschmann (“Ku’damm 59″), Miguel Bernardeau (” Élite “), Maciej Musial (” The Witcher “), Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen (” The Rain “), Rosalie Craig (” Truth Seekers “), Clara Rosager (“The Rain”) and Maria Erwolter.
