The new episodes “The Mosquito Coast” can be seen starting this Friday on Apple TV+. The first season ran in 2021, but shortly after it ended, it was announced that the series would be renewed.
“The Mosquito Coast” is an Apple TV+ in-house production. The series is about Allie Fox, who flees from the US government with his family. The lead role is played by Justin Theroux.
The Mosquito Coast is a best-selling film adaptation
The Apple TV+ series is based on the 1981 novel of the same name by Paul Theroux. Interestingly, his nephew Justin Theroux plays the main role in “The Mosquito Coast.” In this way, the author probably keeps a special eye on the film adaptation of the story he invented.
In it, it’s about the dangerous journey of a radical idealist and brilliant inventor – Allie Fox (Justin Theroux). On the run from the U.S. government, he and his family move to Mexico. The seven new episodes take the Fox family to Guatemala.
The Mosquito Coast Season 2: Actual mosquito coast is in Nicaragua
A brief excursion into geography: The Mosquito Coast is the name given to a part of the coast of present-day Nicaragua around the city of Bluefields (especially during the colonial period from the 17th to the 19th century). Before the Fox family can get there on their escape, however, they would have to leave behind not only Guatemala but also Honduras.
