The Acolyte is an upcoming TV series created by Leslye Headland. It is part of the Star Wars Franchise and events are set in the post-High Republic era, before the events of the main Star Wars films. The series acts as a prequel to the movies. It is a spinoff of the original films by George Lucas.
Filming began in late October 2022 and ended in June of 2023. Leslye Headland who was a big fan of Star Wars herself decided to write her own. The series is being produced by Lucasfilm Ltd., the same studio behind the original Star Wars films. The series was first announced in December 2021. Here’s everything you need to know about The Acolyte.
The Acolyte: Release Date
The Acolyte will consist of eight episodes and is scheduled to be released on Disney+ in 2024. No official release date has yet been confirmed, but with the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, we expect further delays. Production of the series was not affected as filming officially wrapped on June 6.
The Acolyte: Plot
The series takes place at the end of the High Republic era in a world of ‘shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers’, almost 100 years before the first film, ‘Star Wars: Episode l – The Phantom Menace’ (1999). A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but only to discover something sinister, which they never anticipated.
Apart from this, the rest of the plot for the series remains unknown. The ‘female-centric’ series will have a female protagonist, but will not exclude male characters or audience as per Headland. We could expect a first Star Wars-themed project without intergalactic wars. Hopefully, all our questions will be answered when ‘The Acolyte’ releases in 2024.
