In Star Trek Picard season 3 there will be two Borg collectives, the good of Jurati and the evil that we already know. This is confirmed by the series maker!
- In the season 2 finale of Star Trek: Picard, the Federation allies with a Borg collective led by Jurati.
- Showrunner Terry Matalas now confirms that the Borg under Jurati are not the same Borg that we know from TNG and “Voyager”.
- Fans will certainly be reassured that this makes it clear that “Picard” has not overwritten any previous Borg stories.
In the finale of ” Star Trek: Picard ” season 2, the Federation makes peace with the Borg, now led by Jurati (Alison Pill). The reason for this lies in a time travel that Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew have denied. In battle, Jurati’s body was taken over by the Borg Queen, and their spirits quickly merged, coexisting in the same body.
But the big question at the end of Season 2 is: has time travel rewritten the events, or are there now two Borg collectives? Showrunner Terry Matalas now has an answer ready on Twitter and reveals that there are two Borg collectives in the “Star Trek” universe.
“They are a branch [of the timeline] that is not part of the story. They are not the Borg. I think the real Borg are still somewhere in the Delta Quadrant licking their wounds after Alt Admiral Janeway poisoned them.”
Matalas clarifies once and for all that the previous stories with the Borg in ” Star Trek: The Next Century ” (TNG) and ” Star Trek: Starship Voyager ” were not overwritten by time travel. The events of the Voyager finale, where an alternate variant of Janeway defeats the Borg Queen, is still canon!
“Star Trek: Picard” season 3 will start in spring 2023 on the Paramount+ streaming service. You can while away the waiting time with other stories from the “Star Trek” universe. “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” just started.
