‘Sex and the City’s Cynthia Nixon spills tea about costars ahead ‘And Just Like That’ Season 2

Don't miss

Sex and the City‘ has been an iconic TV soap, be it for Sarah Jessica Parker‘s Carrie Bradshaw’s incredible fashion sense or Kim Cattrall‘s Samantha Jones’ oh-so-sassy personality. The group of four women influenced many women around the globe to put their female friendships closest or how like Parker’s Carrie likes to say it: “They say nothing lasts forever. Dreams change, trends come and go, but friendships never go out of style.” The series fandom reflected as it has won several accolades, including seven of its 54 Emmy Awards nominations, eight of its 24 Golden Globe nominations, and three of its 11 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations.

However, fans were incredibly upset when the iconic soap’s spin-off series returned to HBO after 17 years without Cattrall for its first season of ‘And Just Like That’. Cynthia Nixon’s ‘Sex and the City’ journey

After 94 episodes broadcast over six seasons ‘Sex and the City’ returned with the ultimate spin off, ‘And Just Like That’. Although the series got a mixed response from the audience, creators bounced back with a second season to redeem from their mistakes. Ahead of the release of ‘And Just Like That’ Season 2’s premiere, famous Miranda Hobbs actor, Cynthia Nixon revealed she was called up to play Carrie to ‘..And Just Like That‘ podcast.

She said, “They brought me in to audition for Carrie. I auditioned and they were like, ‘Yeah, not so much,'” Nixon said on the podcast. After being rejected for the role, the actress said that she was still keen to be part of the series because it seemed like there were going to be other roles that they needed to fill for the show. “And I said to myself I’m usually not so proactive — but I was like, at the time, it didn’t seem like there were four women, it seemed there were, like, seven,” Nixon added. “And I was like, ‘It’s a show that shoots in New York. This never happens. There’s got to be one of those women I can play. Couldn’t they see me for somebody else?'”

Cattrall made Nixon walk on “eggshells”

The 57-year-old actress who plays the Lawyer in the series told Vanity Fair that the dynamic of the show changed without Cattrall’s character Samantha — who is set to return for a cameo appearance in the Season 2 finale — but it is “not something that we speak about.”

Nixon states, “We all love each other, we love our show, we wanted to do more of it. And we all wanted to be there. So that makes an enormous difference, that you’re not walking around on eggshells with someone who’s unhappy for reasons that are hard to even understand what they are,” she added, seemingly referring to Cattrall.

Latest updates on ‘And Just Like That…’ Season 2

  • According to VarietyCattrall filmed the cameo on March 22 in New York City “without seeing or speaking with the stars of the series” including Parker,  Nixon and Kristin Davis. She also reportedly did not interact with series creator Michael Patrick King.
  • However, she was dressed by ‘Sex and the City‘ designer Patricia Field for the appearance. Furthermore in a recent interview the ‘SATC’ designer revealed, “I wasn’t shocked,” about the return of Samantha Jones – the character played by Cattrall in “Sex,” one quarter of the famous quartet of New York City women who was famously missing from the new show. Variety reported that Field, who was not previously involved in “And Just Like That…,” came on board specifically to dress Cattrall. “I was very happy. I’m very happy to work with Kim,” Field said of the opportunity. “She trusts me, she believes in me. It’s just smooth and lovely all the time.”
