Peacemaker” is getting a 2nd season from streaming service HBO Max. We tell you everything about the start, plot, trailer and cast of the DC series.

  • Shortly before the finale, HBO Max confirmed the extension of the series for a 2nd season.
  • However, you may have to say goodbye to the grandiose opening of the series.
  • Season 2 will see the return of all the main cast members. Writer James Gunn recently gave an update on the new episodes.

“Peacemaker”, the series spin-off to “The Suicide Squad”, is not undeservedly breaking streaming records in the USA at HBO Max. So it’s no wonder that director James Gunn’s series has been extended for a 2nd season. But in Germany, the DC production is still looking in vain for a home.

But when will the new episodes start, what will season 2 be about and which actors will return? Netzwelt tells you everything that is already known about the second season of “Peacemaker”. Be careful, there are spoilers for the complete season 1!

Peacemaker Season 2: Release Date

The 2nd season of “Peacemaker” was confirmed by HBO Max one day before the release of the season 1 finale. It’s quite possible that the sequel was already decided behind the scenes earlier, but even then it’s not to be assumed that the production of season 2 will now proceed at lightning speed.

Already in season 1, all scripts were written by James Gunn, but he only directed a few episodes. This is supposed to change in season 2, so the production will have to wait until Gunn has the time to write 8 scripts and shoot 8 episodes.

Currently Gunn is busy with the shooting of “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3“, so season 2 of “Peacemaker” will not start before 2023. An official date is still a long time coming.

Now writer James Gunn gave an update on the new episodes. In an interview with podcaster Neil Vagg, Gunn addressed Peacemaker’s state of mind, explaining that he knows where the character is on his emotional journey and that while he has made new friends and been relieved of Adebayo, his father’s presence hovers over him.

Despite his death, Peacemaker still struggles with the impact his father had on him. Gunn cites the characters’ relationship in the comics as inspiration and says that while he knew where the character’s emotional journey would go, he was still working on the plot. Check out Gunn’s commentary below.

“I know what Peacemaker’s emotional journey is, I know where he is now, I know where he ends up. I mean we see where he ends up, in some ways he ends up in a good place, he’s been exonerated by Adebayo, she’s sacrificed her own relationship with her mother to exonerate him.

And we see at least the beginnings of a friendship between him and Amelia Harcourt, and a real friendship between him and some of the other characters. But we also see his father show up, whether he’s alive or not, and whatever that infection is, that his father is still there is a big part of who he is.

And if you know a little bit about the comics, that’s there too, especially in the Paul Kupperberg comics. So yeah, I know where it’s going emotionally, we’re still figuring out the plot, and also, honestly, I’m working on another DC thing, and maybe another one, so we’ve got a few things to balance with the stories.”

Peacemaker Season 2: Cast

There is no question that John Cena will be back as Peacemaker in season 2. The same goes for Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt and Steve Agee as John Economos. His participation as Ghost should also see the return of Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith.

You should also expect to see Nhut Le as Judomaster in season 2, after all he kept popping up in season 1 without playing a crucial role in the finale. So that will change in the coming episodes.
