Outlander Season 7: Release Date, Plot, Cast and News

Don't miss

The 7th season of “Outlander” is on the way. Here you can find all information about the new episodes.

Two years the fans of “Outlander” had to wait for the 6th season of the hit series. But on March 6, 2022, the time had finally come and the new episodes started in the U.S. on the channel STARZ.

Now the question also arises as to the status of the 7th season of “Outlander”? When will it start? What will it be about? And which stars will be in the cast? We have all the information for you.

Outlander Season 7 Cast: Which stars will be in?

One thing is already certain: Outlander Season 7 will definitely see the return of Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, Caitríona Balfe as Claire Randall Fraser, Sophie Skelton as Brianna Randall Fraser and Richard Rankin as Roger Wakefield. Some of the other actors and actresses returning and those joining as new stars have also been revealed:

Two siblings will grace the new episodes with their presence, although with “Outlander” it is never really clear who all really brings happiness. The actors are Izzy Meikle-Small, who was seen in the series “Ripper Street” and Joey Phillips, who had smaller roles in the series “Casualty” and “A Question of Guilt”. She plays Rachel Hunter and he plays Denzell Hunter. They belong to the “Quaker” tribe, but they leave it to fight on the side of the later US-Americans against the British. The two have to deal mainly with Ian, who will also return in season 7. In the books, however, the Hunter siblings encounter another important character: Jamie’s illegitimate son William Ranson. So it should be exciting.

Graham McTavish is not only a personal friend of Jamie actor Sam Heughan, with whom he co-starred in the docu-series “Men in Kilts,” but also starred in seasons 1 and 2 of the popular series as Dougal MacKenzie. Now STARZ has announced that McTavish will return five seasons later, but how does that work? MacKenzie is dead, after all.

The creators have an answer: “One of the best things about our epic story is the time travel that allows us to revisit favorite characters at different times and places, and we’re happy to welcome back so many familiar faces in Season 7.” There are more new and old actors joining the cast as well:

Kristin Atherton will take on a role that already exists: She will play Jenny Murray, Jamie’s sister, who has been around for the first three seasons. Gloria Obianyo will play Mercy Woodock, a black free woman – very unusual for the US colonies. Chris Fulton plays Rob Cameron: a new sidekick alongside Jamie and Claire, and Rod Hallett plays Benedict Arnold, a con man.

Also exciting will be the reappearances of Nell Hudson as Laoghaire Fraser, Jamie’s ex-wife from the first four seasons. Andrew Whipp plays Brian Fraser, Jamie’s father – a character who will soon get his own series. Layla Burns plays Jamie’s stepdaughter Joan MacKimmie, who appeared in seasons 3 and 4. Lotte Verbeek, as Geillis Duncan, was a real foe of Jamie and Claire’s in the first three seasons. So either season 7 really offers a lot of time travel or a whole bunch of memories. We’ll know in the summer of 2023.

Outlander Season 7 Release Date: When does the 7th season start?

Currently, it’s been confirmed Outlander season seven will arrive in summer 2023. However, anything more specific is yet to be revealed. This means the show will likely return to our screens in either May, June or July. We’ll let you know when we know anything more specific. At least we won’t have to endure the 21-month-long droughtlander as we did between seasons five and six!

In even more good news, Outlander‘s seventh outing is going to be twice the length of season six, at 16 episodes long.

During an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Outlander boss Maril Davis confirmed that the team had started shooting for season seven in May 2022. While she remained coy about when it may hit our screens, Davis noted that they were on “a fairly typical schedule” while also pointing out the “supersized season”.

When will the 7th season of Outlander be available on Netflix?

On Netflix, the new seasons usually don’t land until a year after the U.S. broadcast. Accordingly, fans on the streaming service will probably have to wait until spring or summer 2024.

Outlander Season 7 Plot: What is the 7th season about?

“Outlander” is an adaptation of the nine-part novel series called Highland Saga by U.S. author Diana Gabaldon. So far, each season of the series has been based on one volume. Thus, the book “Echo of Hope” will serve as the template for the 7th season of “Outlander.” And as you know from “Outlander” and the books, it will be dramatic again.

Attention, SPOILERS follow!

Brianna and Roger return to the 20th century with their son Jemmy, where they go in search of a gold treasure. There, they not only have an unexpected encounter, but Jemmy is kidnapped. Roger suspects that the kidnapper has traveled into the past and follows him. Brianna, on the other hand, stays in the present.

Meanwhile, the American War of Independence rages in the past, throwing the fledgling nation into chaos. Jamie and Claire escape the conflict after some turmoil by traveling to Scotland. But the next drama is already waiting there: Ian, the husband of Jamie’s sister-in-law Jenny, has tuberculosis and is dying. In addition, Jamie’s ex-wife Laoghaire has a bone to pick with the returnee.

Meanwhile, a medical emergency forces Claire back to America, where she is arrested for being a spy after a misunderstanding. Jamie tries to rush to her aid, but his ship sinks during the crossing.

Outlander Season 7 Episodes: How many episodes does the 7th season have?

While seasons 1 to 5 were quite long with twelve to 16 episodes, there was a small step backwards with season 6, which spans only eight episodes. Instead, Season 7 returns to its beginnings: Like Season 1, it will consist of 16 episodes.

First images of “Outlander” Season 7

“It’s official – Season 7 of ‘Outlander’ is now in production!” With these words, the U.S. channel STARZ announced the start of filming of the 7th season of “Outlander” in early March 2022 with a post on Instagram, where Sophie Skelton, Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan and Richard Rankin can be seen visibly happy.

How much the actors and actresses are looking forward to the 7th season of “Outlander”, they show even more in the post on Sam Heughan’s Instagram account. He himself has a big grin on his face, Caitríona Balfe is fooling around and Sophie Skelton probably can’t hold herself in any longer because of it and breaks out in guffaws. In contrast, Richard Rankin seems directly restrained with his harmless smile.
