The popular action series “Rush Hour” with Jackie Chan is to get a fourth part. Now there is new information about the sequel.
Jackie Chan is one of the most famous and iconic action stars in the world. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong actor, who started out as Bruce Lee’s stuntman, has starred in 138 films, including classics like “Police Story,” “The Right Arm of the Gods” and “Rumble in the Bronx.” The latter was Jackie Chan’s first major success in the United States.
However, his breakthrough in Hollywood came with the buddy cop comedy “Rush Hour” alongside Chris Tucker. In 2007, “Rush Hour 3”, the last part of the series for the time being, was released in cinemas. But “Rush Hour 4” has been in the works for years.
Jackie Chan spoke at the Red Sea Film Festival 2022 in Saudi Arabia (via Deadline) about the status of “Rush Hour 4” at that time.
He said he would meet with the director in the evening to discuss the script. Chan did not reveal who would be responsible for the action film. But at least someone has already been chosen, and a script has been found.
Now the other half of the quick-witted duo has also spoken out, as Variety reports Chris Tucker hinted at his comeback for “Rush Hour 4” on a radio show. The 51-year-old actor said:
“There’s a lot of good stuff coming your way, but on a whole different level. I like that. I’m excited about it. It’s not going to be what you’ve normally seen.
‘Rush Hour 4,’ that’s something I’ll definitely consider because I love working with Jackie, but I’ve got some new stuff that I think you guys are really going to like. I’m looking forward to it.”
Although the first three installments were written by Brett Ratner (“Red Dragon”), it would probably be theoretically possible, at best, that he will also direct “Rush Hour 4”.
In 2017, several women accused the filmmaker of sexual assault, and Warner Bros. subsequently parted ways with the director. So it’s questionable whether New Line Cinema will team up with Ratner again for the action sequel.
Jackie Chan wants to make more romantic films
As Jackie Chan tells on stage, he didn’t believe in the success of the first “Rush Hour” movie, which you can rent on Amazon, and already wanted to retire from Hollywood because he was always proposed the same roles:
“I tried so many times to make it to Hollywood, but after that I said, ‘No more Hollywood,’ because my English is not good, this is not my culture, they don’t like this kind of action […] My manager said, ‘Here’s a script and it’s called “Rush Hour.”‘ I said no. Hong Kong police? I’m not doing that. He said, ‘Jackie, why don’t you try it one last time.’ I was like, ‘Okay, this is the last time.'”
Chan stated at the film festival that he would like to make fewer action films and more love stories in the future. However, another promising action project with the star was confirmed just recently.
Since Jackie Chan is a busy man, fans will have to be patient until “Rush Hour 4” opens. However, if you want to watch the first three films before then, you can find them on Amazon Prime Video for purchase and partly for rental.
