Heartstopper Season 2: Filming starts – these characters are new!

Don't miss

The Netflix series “Heartstopper” has been renewed for two more seasons on Netflix. Now the teen dramedy officially starts production of the sequel and has also announced new roles.

  • The hit teen series “Heartstopper” is getting a 2nd and 3rd season from the streaming service Netflix.
  • Now the streamer gives us a sneak peek at the start of production with a video.
  • It was also announced that the upcoming 2nd season will feature four actors and actresses in new roles.

Season 1 of the graphic novel adaptation “Heartstopper” was a huge success for Netflix. Therefore, an extension of the series was not unexpected. However, when it was announced that the series had been given the “go” for two seasons, the streaming service was able to surprise. Now season 2 has started production and the loyal fans are not only rewarded with a sneak peek behind the scenes, but also with a cast announcement.

Heartstopper Season 2: Release Date

There is no start date for season 2 yet. Based on the releases of other Netflix series, we can probably expect season 2 in spring 2023. This is because there is usually about a year between two Netflix seasons. This also means that season 3 might not be released until spring 2024.

Heartstopper Season 2: Plot

On the plot, the two main actors Kit Connor and Joe Locke commented in an interview with the US magazine Entertainment Weekly.

“I think based on volumes three and four of the graphic novel, it’s pretty easy to preview a second season. Charlie is developing an eating disorder and his mental health is deteriorating,” Locke says.

Connor added that Tao and Elle’s relationship will slowly progress.

Heartstopper Season 2: Cast and Production

After the joyful news that “Heartstopper” is about to be renewed for two more seasons, we can now enjoy a brief behind-the-scenes look at the official start of production. Netflix has released a short clip in which (almost) all cast members get to say “hi” once. In addition, we can not only catch a few glimpses of the actors’ first readings, but also get to see some brand new faces in the cast.

Through the short video, we can assume that all the main actors and actresses from season 1 will return. That means Kit Connor (“His Dark Materials”) will return as Nick, Joe Locke as Charlie, William Gao as Tao, Yasmin Finney as Elle, Corinna Brown as Tara and Kizzy Edgell as Darcy.

In addition, Sebastian Croft (Ben), Tobie Donovan (Isaac), Rhea Norwood (Imogen), Jenny Walser (Tori) and Cormac Hyde-Corrin (Harry) as well as Stephen Fry (“Doctor Who”) and Olivia Colman (“The Crown”) are also back in the cast.

On the other hand, the cast will be strengthened by two new actors and one actress. Nima Taleghani will take on the role of Mr. Farouk, another Truham teacher. If we are not mistaken, this cast addition thus means that the love life of art teacher Mr. Ajayi will also pick up steam.

Also, another familiar character from the comics will be introduced. Nick’s nasty brother David Nelson will be embodied by Jack Barton in season 2. After all the drama caused by Ben and Harry, David will also bring some turmoil back into the relationship between Nick and Charlie.

And on the student front, both Higgs and Truham will be getting new additions as well. Newcomer Leila Khan will make her acting debut, having impressed in open casting. She will take on the role of Sahar Zahid, a new addition to the group of friends after changing schools.

Also actor Bradley Riches, who was already seen in season 1 in a small supporting role, will now take on a larger role in season 1. His character is named James McEwan and is also a student at the boys’ school Truham Grammar School.
