When “Grey’s Anatomy” returns with its 19th season in 2023, it will also mean that Meredith Grey aka Ellen Pompeo will lay down her scrubs from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital forever. To prepare fans for the end of her era, U.S. broadcaster ABC has released a short trailer for Meredith’s farewell.
Meredith is shown looking forward to her big day and the new chapter in her life. She walks the halls of Grey Sloan one last time and says goodbye to her companions, some of whom have been with her from the beginning.
At the beginning of season 19, Meredith had found out that her daughter Zola’s anxiety attacks are due to the fact that she is highly gifted. Looking for help for her child, she finds a new school and decides to move to Boston with her family.
There, Zola will attend Brookline STEAM Academy and Meredith will research Alzheimer’s for her former colleague Jackson Avery’s Catherine Fox Foundation.
Ellen Pompeo has been part of the main cast since the first season of “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2005. This makes her among the last three cast members who have been with the series from the beginning. Besides her, only Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey and James Pickens Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber from season 1 are still in the series.
When the 19th season of “Grey’s Anatomy” was announced, it was already announced that Ellen Pompeo would only be seen in a few episodes. However, the actress will continue to work as a producer for the series after her exit. Guest appearances are also not ruled out.
In the U.S., the new episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” have been running since October 2022, but you can already watch the episodes now via VPN access.
