Dan Stevens Takes Lead Role in Alluring “Solar Opposites” Following Roiland’s Departure

Don't miss

Dan Stevens, known for his roles in “Downton Abbey,” “Legion,” and “Gaslit,” has been chosen to assume the lead role in an animated series originally created by Mike McMahan (“Star Trek: Lower Decks”) and Roiland. Roiland, who faced domestic violence charges and was removed from the project in January, will be replaced by Stevens. The actor will provide the voice for Korvo, an ill-tempered alien character who consistently dons ceremonial robes and claims to despise Earth. Korvo is determined to repair their spaceship and flee to a new planet. A preview featuring Dan Stevens‘ debut in “Solar Opposites” can be viewed below.

Transition and Replacement: Roiland’s Departure from “Solar Opposites” and “Rick and Morty”

Dan Stevens’ involvement in “Solar Opposites” strengthens his relationship with 20th Television Animation, the producers of the show. He already has a role in their adult animated comedy series, “Central Park,” and has contributed to other animated shows like “The Prince” (where he voices Prince Charles) and Netflix’s “Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts.”

The fourth season of “Solar Opposites,” consisting of 11 episodes, is scheduled to release on August 14 on Hulu. Additionally, a Valentine’s Day special is planned for next year. The series, executive produced by Mike McMahan and Josh Bycel, received an early renewal for a fifth season in October 2022.

After being fired from both “Solar Opposites” and Adult Swim’s popular show “Rick and Morty,” Roiland lost his producing deal with 20th Animation earlier this year. Warner Bros. Discovery-backed Adult Swim is currently searching for new voice actors to replace Roiland’s roles, indicating that Rick and Morty may be voiced by two different actors in the future.

Allegations and Career Setback: Roiland’s Troubling Behavior

Following the emergence of allegations of domestic violence and reports highlighting concerning behavior, Roiland’s career in Hollywood suffered a significant setback. The allegations were extensively covered, including by The Hollywood Reporter. However, the Orange County District Attorney dismissed the domestic violence charges due to insufficient evidence. Roiland celebrated the outcome as a form of “justice” and maintained that the allegations were untrue.

Regarding Roiland’s involvement in the animated series “Koala Man,” Hulu has not yet reached a decision about its future. Roiland served as an executive producer and voiced a role in the show, which premiered its first season consisting of eight episodes in January.

Dan Stevens, who recently appeared in the Hulu limited series “Welcome to Chippendales,” is represented by CAA and Peikoff Mahan.
