Avatar 2: The Way of Water

Along with the teaser trailer, a first batch of images from the “Avatar” sequel “Avatar: The Way of Water” was released in early May 2022. Visually, these differ only slightly from the first “Avatar” film, but focus more on Pandora’s oceans.

Avatar 2: Start Date

“Avatar 2” should start on December 15, 2021. This date was actually far enough in the future to be able to assume an actual publication in the run-up to Christmas 2021, but things were to be different. The Corona crisis meant that filming had to be interrupted for a long time, which ultimately led to another postponement.

“Avatar 2” was postponed by a whole year, to December 14, 2022. This will hardly be due to the fact that filming is taking an extra year, instead, Disney plans to always release the upcoming “Avatar” films in December and this plan has not changed.

Avatar 2: Production

As James Cameron has confirmed, “Avatar 2” is already in the can and the third part is almost finished. The second part is currently still in post-production and since “Avatar” is technically very demanding, the post-production will take a lot of time.

To realize his vision for the “Avatar” films, Cameron filmed underwater, which required new technology and required actors to hold their breath for long periods of time. 70-year-old Sigourney Weaver says she trained with Marines to be able to hold her breath for up to six minutes, allowing Cameron to shoot longer scenes underwater.

Avatar 2: Storyline

12 years have passed since the events of “Avatar: Pandora’s Adventures”. Jake Sully has started a family with Neytiri and together they explore Pandora. They get to know new tribes, for example the freediving clan Metkayina. But then the evil organization RDA returns, again led by Colonel Miles Quaritch. It is not yet known how Quaritch, who died in the first film, will return in the sequels.

Avatar 2: The Sequels

While the plot of “Avatar: The Adventure of Pandora” would have worked as a standalone story, Parts 2-5 will contain cross-plot elements. For example, it has already been confirmed that Colonel Miles Quaritch will act as the antagonist in all four sequels. In part 5, the all-important battle for the fate of Pandora awaits us.

However, director James Cameron assures that every upcoming “Avatar” movie will also have its own story with a clear beginning and end, so we don’t have to expect several unsatisfactory cliffhangers.

Avatar 2: Trailer

Certainly also because the large 3D images have been forgotten and “Avatar” has to live on the television at home not only from its visual values but also from its story, whose parallels to “Pocahontas” or “Dances with Wolves” are often criticized became. That’s also why Disney+ pulled the film from its schedule to make the recent theatrical release of the first film in 3D even more interesting. With “Avatar: The Way of Water” the technology is of course even more sophisticated and the pictures are even more impressive, as the new trailer shows.
