28 Years Later feels more like a standard Hollywood action flick than the low-budget experiment that came before it. (This is a movie where the good guys use a helicopter to chop off zombie heads.) And while there are some interesting parallels between this fictional occupation of London and America’s real-world occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan in the mid-2000s, that’s not enough to save what should be a terrifyingly good time but feels more like a mid-tier summer blockbuster.
“28 Years Later” Takes Shape: Danny Boyle and Alex Garland Discuss the Potential Sequel
According to writer Alex Garland, the idea for a potential sequel titled “28 Years Later” emerged a few years ago, deviating from the expected “28 Months Later” naming convention. Director Danny Boyle expressed his interest in the concept. In the meantime, Garland has also established himself as a respected director. As for who will helm the sequel, Boyle suggests that if Garland doesn’t want to direct it himself, he would be keen on taking the directorial role, provided they develop an equally compelling idea.
The delay in bringing this sequel to fruition can be attributed to the previous installment, “28 Weeks Later.” To delve into the reasons behind the extended wait, it is necessary to revisit the events surrounding the release of that film.
Horror fans have long awaited a third installment in the 28 Days Later franchise since the release of 28 Weeks Later in 2007. However, due to rights complications, a sequel seemed unlikely. Thankfully, the original creators and cast have recently hinted at the development of a new sequel. In an interview with Inverse, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland share thrilling updates on the potential upcoming installment, sparking excitement among fans
The original ‘28 Days Later’ was my top zombie film at the time (still up there) AND a top performance by Oppenheimer, I mean Cillian Murphy

28 Weeks Later had so much potential but fell so flat for me. Maybe this will be the rare instance that a sequel is better than the original.

28 Weeks later has one of the BEST openeing sequences for a zombie film imo.
Would definitely be interested in a third movie.
