The hit series “Virgin River” is being extended with season 6. Here we explain why you’ll have to wait a little longer for this extension.
“Virgin River” is based on the book series by Robyn Carr, which also serves as the basis for the Netflix series. In the picturesque town of Virgin River in northern California, Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) hopes to make a fresh start and put her painful past behind her.
She takes a job as a nurse and midwife at the local clinic, which is run by retired Navy doctor Doc Mullins (Tim Matheson). The town’s community is small – but close-knit – and Mel quickly makes friends and finds support from the locals.
Set against the idyllic backdrop of Virgin River, the series is not only a visual feast for the eyes, but also an emotional experience. Find out how this rollercoaster ride leads to season 6 below.
“Virgin River” touches us with its sincere portrayal of interpersonal relationships, love and loss.
Virgin River Season 6: The sequel is coming later than expected
The hit series “Virgin River” is getting another sequel with season 6. Netflix announced this before the fifth season of the series had even been released. However, with the renewal, the streaming service also postponed the release date of the fifth season, which was originally due to start in July 2023. However, fans were able to take this change – albeit wistfully – with pride, as the news also brought some joy. You can watch all five seasons on Netflix.
What could “Virgin River” season 6 be about?
Warning: Spoilers for the fourth season of “Virgin River” follow!
As the sixth season is still a long way off, we can only guess what the rest of the extension will be about. After Mel and Jack (Martin Henderson) brought down Charmain’s (Lauren Hammersley) web of lies at the end of season 4, it turns out that Jack is not the twins’ father.
The series is still leaving it open as to who may be in that position instead. So if there is no answer to the question in the fifth season, you will hopefully get the answer in the sixth season.
But Mel herself also experienced a major upheaval in the finale of the fourth season. After she told the doc that she was quitting her job, she now finds herself without anything to do in the fifth season.
This storyline could also continue into season 6, as Mel will certainly be dealing with the impending birth before she starts a new job.
