It is expected that the wait for the release date of Uncle from Another World Season 2 will be long. In fact, fans of the anime should expect to wait at least until 2025.
In Isekai Ojisan anime season 2, Takafumi Takaoka and Sumika Fujimiya will continue to follow the misadventures of Ojisan, aka Uncle Yosuke Shibazaki, and Tsundere Elf as they seek to return to Japan in an anti-magic dungeon. But when will Isekai Ojisan season 2 be released on Netflix?
The studio and main cast for season 2 of an otherworldly Uncle from Another World have yet to be announced.
For the first season, the anime was produced by Japanese animation studio Atelier Pontdarc. Never heard of them? Neither have I, and I make my living writing about anime. Atelier Pontdarc is a relatively new animation studio and the anime Isekai Ojisan is their second production after the series 2021 Do Your Best, Douki-chan (Ganbare Douki-chan).
The first season was directed by director Shigeki Kawai. Isekai Ojisan is the first time Kawai is the main director, but he was assistant director for the season 2 of Blue Exorcist. He has also been an episode director for popular anime such as Sword Art Online: Alicization, Darling in the FranXX, and Gate Season 2.
“I spent 20 years in an Isekai known as the anime industry,” said the director. “I also learned how to use several types of magic. This time, I want to try to cast a spell that will make everyone smile. The results may vary depending on the person. Some people might burst out laughing.”
Writer Kenta Ihara wrote the scripts and composition for the series. His name is more familiar as he has also worked on recent popular anime such as Tomodachi Game, Saga of Tanya the Evil Season 2, Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy Season 2, Vinland Saga Season 2, Full Dive, Cautious Hero, Trapped in a Dating Sim, and Mieruko-chan.
“Uncle and I come from the same generation, so I have a lot of emotional attachment to this work,” said the anime’s author. “So far, this has happened with many other Isekai works. To make sure I don’t lose his love for SEGA, I’m going to put all my efforts into the script. For people who are uncles, and for people who are uncles, I hope you will be able to enjoy this work.”

Kazuhiro Oota (Re:ZERO Season 2) was both the character designer and the animation director.
“The main staff, who are old men, will do their best,” said the animator.
Composer Kenichiro Suehiro (Shadows House Season 2, Golden Kamuy Season 4, Darwin’s Game, Fire Force Season 3, Goblin Slayer Season 2, Re:ZERO Starting Life in Another World) created the music.
The theme music for the season 2 of Uncle from Another World OP (opening) and ED (ending) has not been announced yet.
For the first season, the OP “story” of The Uncle From Another World was performed by Mayu Maeshima, while the ED “Ichibanboshi Sonority” was performed by Yuka Iguchi.
The production of the first season suffered delays due to COVID infections that affected the studio staff and other subcontractors. For example, the release date of episode 5 of a Uncle from Another World in Japan was delayed to August 17, 2022. (Episode 4 of Uncle From Another World was not released on Netflix USA and the rest of the world until August 10, 2022.)
Subsequently, the release date of Uncle from Another World episode 6 was pushed back to August 24, 2022, and the release date of Uncle from Another World episode 7 was pushed back to August 31, 2022.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of the delays. On September 9, 2022, it was announced that the release date of episode 8 of A Uncle from Another World was pushed back to 25:35 JST on November 24, 2022 (actually November 25 at 1:35 JST). In Japan, episodes 3 to 6 were rebroadcast on television from September 7 to 28, 2022. Then the TV broadcast resumed from episode 1 on October 6, 2022.
Hopefully the anime will not suffer the same fate as the anime 86 or the anime Wonder Egg Priority. These two series had their respective final episodes postponed for several months due to production delays. These TV series had to wait for Japanese broadcasters to have free time slots in their programs. Even though Isekai Ojisan is a Netflix exclusive for international streaming, Netflix is only a licensor and Japanese broadcasters AT-X and BS11 (Nippon BS Broadcasting Corporation) are directly part of the anime’s production committee.
Assuming there are no further delays, the first season finale, Uncle From Another World Episode 13, will be released on December 29, 2022.
All 13 episodes will be released as three Blu-Ray/DVD volumes of A Uncle from Another World. Volume 1 was scheduled for release on September 28, 2022, Volume 2 on October 26, 2022, and Volume 3 on November 25, 2022. (It is possible that the comic book box sets will be delayed).

Isekai Ojisan Season 2 Release Date Prediction: Renewal very likely, but expect to wait until 2025
At the time of the last update, Studio Atelier Pontdarc, Kadokawa or any other company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the release date of the season 2 of Uncle from Another World. The production of a sequel has not been announced either.
As soon as the news is officially confirmed, this article will be updated with the relevant information.
In the meantime, it is possible to speculate on when, or if, the release date of Isekai Ojisan season 2 will take place in the future.
The Isekai Ojisan anime seems to have struck a chord with the fans. The review scores for Uncle from Another World are much higher than average for an isekai anime.
Sure, most of the humor is about advertising SEGA and subverting tired isekai tropes, but it’s done in a way that allows the characters to relate to people rather than personified stereotypes. We completely understand Takafumi’s secondary discomfort with watching the antics of his apparently dense NEET uncle.
And then we have Sumika’s point of view, representing the average person and her reaction to the uncle and Takafumi, equally dense (romantic obliviousness is a family trait, apparently). The main female characters like Elf-san represent the old-school Tsundere, while Mabel, descendant of the ice elemental, is a kuudere with a slightly sinister touch. The cheerful Alicia Edelcia is a chosen heroine straight out of fantasy.
Studio Atelier Pontdarc has also succeeded in creating its own style of animation. It definitely stands out in the crowded market of isekai anime.
All of these factors have combined to create a product that anime fans have voted the best anime of the summer of 2022. The fact that it is available on Netflix and Disney+ Japan and not just on Crunchyroll or HIDIVE is another bonus that may help the anime production decide to have Uncle from Another World renewed for a second season.
It is important to understand that Netflix does not directly decide on the renewal of Isekai Ojisan for a second season. Netflix has exclusive international streaming rights, and they tend to pay better than streaming competitors, but they are not part of the anime’s production committee or the producing companies that will make the decision.
Regardless, Netflix’s success (or lack thereof) in streaming is a critical factor, as streaming revenue accounts for most of the anime industry’s revenue. Unfortunately, the anime Isekai Ojisan failed to make Netflix Japan’s Top 10 in July 2022, nor did it make Netflix’s global Top 10 for English or non-English TV shows.
(To be fair, SPY x FAMILY Part 1 and BASTARD! – Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-are the only animated TV series that managed to make these rankings during that time.)
Fortunately, Netflix has a habit of renewing its anime exclusives even when they are not topping the global charts. For example, the Netflix series Record of Ragnarok Season 2, BEASTARS Season 3, Ultraman Season 3, ARCANE Season 2, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Part 2, EDENS ZERO Season 2, Baki Hanma Season 2, Komi Can’t Communicate Season 2, and Kengan Ashura Season 2 (Kengan Ashura Part 3) were all confirmed for production (relatively speaking) shortly after their respective previous seasons were released. (Kengan Ashura Season 3 is confirmed as “Season 2” by Netflix, but there was a long wait before production was announced.)
But it’s not like being a Netflix exclusive anime means automatic renewal. Season 2 of Netflix’s Yasuke, season 2 of Netflix’s High-Rise Invasion, season 2 of Netflix’s Drifting Dragons, season 3 of Netflix’s The Idhun Chronicles, and season 3 of Netflix’s 7 SEEDS were never announced, even though many of these TV series were based on finished stories from Japanese books or manga series.
Even though the second season is approved for production, the main problem is the lack of source material, as the first season of the anime almost caught up with the manga Uncle from Another World. It took the original creator about three years to complete the chapters of the manga Isekai Ojisan that were adapted by the anime.
Therefore, it can be predicted that the release date of the season 2 of Uncle from Another World will be several years away. At the monthly rate of creation of new chapters of the manga, the season 2 of Isekai Ojisan could be released in 2025 or 2026 at the earliest.
Uncle from Another World: The manga compared to the anime
The story of the anime TV series is based on the manga Uncle from Another World by the creator of the series Hotondoshindeiru. Published digitally online on Comic Walker and NicoNico since June 2018 and Kadokawa published the chapters in volumes in tankobon format.
As of August 20, 2022, the manga was on volume 8, which included up to chapter 42.
As of June 2022, the manga Isekai Ojisan had 1.8 million copies in circulation. It is possible that the anime boosted the manga’s sales during the summer of 2022, but if so, the numbers were not high enough for the manga to reach the 1.8 million copy mark.
The North American publisher began publishing the English translation of the manga Isekai Ojisan in June 2021. On August 9, 2022, the English manga was at volume 5.
The anime remained mostly faithful to the source material, although the chapters were rearranged by some episodes. For example, Alicia’s introduction was originally in chapter 10, which should have been episode 4 of Isekai Ojisan.
The comic rhythm of the manga tended to be scattered, which made it difficult for the anime writer to reorganize the jokes into a focused story. In fact, the anime managed to accentuate the comic flow and cultural references.
For example, episode 3 of Isekai Ojisan contains an obvious reference to Attack On Titan, but the manga’s chapter is not as clear as the anime’s: the fantastical titan-like creature peers over the wall of the magical city.
It is expected that the season of Uncle from Another World will pick up the story in volume 8 of the manga. Apparently, season 2 of Isekai Ojisan will feature Alicia Edelcia in an episode about hot springs!

Overall, it is expected that the first season finale, Isekai Ojisan Episode 13, will find a stopping point corresponding to volume 7 of the manga: Chapter 37.
This is the best stopping point, as it resolves and closes the plot of a fantastic arc while setting up the sequel. The chapter works as a climax as it features a mix of (anti-climactic) battles in Jato that allows the girls to show off. Also, the uncle, aka Orc-Face, helps his “enemy,” the president, while accidentally defeating Doldore in epic fashion.
As mentioned before, the bad news is that there are currently not enough chapters available to make Uncle from Another World Season 2. As new chapters of the manga are released every month, there will be enough source material for a second season by 2025 (although some of the recent chapters are action-oriented and when animated will only take a few minutes of airtime).
The good news is that manga readers can skip ahead to volume 8 to read ahead of the anime. Unfortunately, English-only manga readers will have to wait until the end of 2023, when the official English translation of volume 8 will be released.
Uncle from Another World Season 2: TV anime spoilers (Plot Summary/Synopsis)
The last time we watched Uncle’s fantastic adventures in Granbahamal, Alicia-san, Raiga, Edgar and the others had left for the royal capital. Uncle continued to travel with Elf-san and Mabel trying to find a magical way to return to Japan.
When Mabel sleeps too long in an inn, Uncle and Elf-san abandon her (and tell the innkeepers they are splitting the bill with her) to go to a dungeon. They travel south for several days in a covered wagon and the trip is pretty crazy since it’s Elf girl’s first time driving!
It’s also a “bad memory” as Elf asks her uncle to hand feed her while she smiles and mutters “Stupid orc…”. While Uncle is happy when the ride is over, Elf wishes it could have gone on longer (he still doesn’t get it, obviously).
But when they finally arrive at the dungeon at the foot of a mountain, they discover a bewildered gathering of adventurers. It turns out that magic only works for a short time in the dungeon, so it seems that an anti-magic system is in place. But this dangerous revelation doesn’t faze Uncle at all.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but we just have to hit the start button to get started,” Uncle says, sounding totally cool without trying.
Meanwhile, in the real world ,it is September 2018. YouTube has just released the new feature that allows livestreaming, but Uncle is opposed to this idea because he thinks that YouTube professionals should create high-quality edited videos. Still, they manage to find new ways to use magic to keep the audience clicking the “Like” button.
Everyone still wants to go to hot springs in Japan. Except for Sawae, who bluntly says, “I’m not going.”
When Fujimiya spends girl time with Saware, the girl discusses the fact that she has started watching Youtubers do magic tricks. She is curious to see Takafumi’s uncle, but Fujimiya warns her not to watch Ojisan’s channel.
Takafumi introduces his uncle to the modern cafes in the bookstore. He expresses amazement at the wide variety of menu options and that’s when he notices the girls. They then have a discussion about books and whether digital books or physical light novels are better.
The next day, they finally get back to the dungeon foray… but Uncle skips right to explaining how he solved the dungeon’s anti-magic mystery and jumps right to their first fight! Takafumi is very frustrated that he missed the full walkthrough of the dungeon, but Uncle insists that viewers would be bored by such a compilation and move on to another video!
The most recent chapters of the manga feature a lot of action panels. If the new monster fights are animated well, they will be epic… and that skeleton monster isn’t even in its final form!
The uncle and elf still have mysteries to solve. Their magic is limited and their magical weapons are flawed. Worse, the first skeletal monster they encounter seems easy at first, but it grows stronger and stronger as they fight it, resurrecting each time to transform into a terrifying skeletal monstrosity that looks like it’s coming out of a seething inferno.
Just as the situation seems hopeless, Elf-san recognizes a flaw in the monstrous creature’s design. When the uncle compliments her by stating that he can trust her plan, she begins to smile back at him. Of course, the uncle doesn’t understand her happiness and thinks she’s just smiling like a war crazy, which results in several blows to her head.
But that’s just the first layer of the dungeon. Once they get down there, they are warned by another adventurer that the easy part is over and now the real challenge begins below… (Of course, this same adventurer has snuck past the first layer through a secret passage and insists that anyone who can defeat the “immortal” skeletal creature is a monster himself).
