Guilty or not guilty? Mickey Haller will also be investigating this question in “The Lincoln Lawyer” season 3. When will the sequel start on Netflix?
The finale of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 not only leaves some questions about Mickey Haller’s (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) client Lisa Trammell (Lana Parrilla) unanswered, but the popular car trunk lawyer is also drawn directly into the next case. Anyone who wants to know what this is all about can now breathe a sigh of relief: the iconic Ford “Lincoln Town Car” will soon be rolling across the screens again as part of “The Lincoln Lawyer” season 3. Fans can look forward to a total of ten new episodes. As the series has conquered the Netflix top 10 in 81 countries, this decision must not have been difficult for those responsible (via Netflix).
When will The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 start?
Although Mickey Haller will be back at the wheel of his mobile law firm in a third season, Netflix has not yet announced when exactly he will be taking on his new case. If the streaming service sticks to the usual release cycle of one year, the sequel could, with any luck, await us as early as summer 2024.
However, the now ended Hollywood strike, in which the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) fought for better working conditions and fair wages, brought work in the dream factory to a standstill for several months. Due to the delays, Mickey Haller may not be in court until the end of 2024 or in the course of 2025.
You can pass the waiting time with Bosch: Legacy season 2, among other things. In the underlying novel by Michael Connelly, Haller is the half-brother of the infamous Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver).
The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 plot: Which book is being adapted?
“The Lincoln Lawyer” is based on the series of novels by Michael Connelly, who is also involved in the lawyer series as screenwriter and executive producer. Connelly has currently published seven novels about Mickey Haller. The first volume was adapted into “The Client” back in 2011. In the film, however, Matthew McConaughey can be seen in the role of the lawyer. Netflix picked up the second book, “So Help Us God”, as part of the first ten episodes.
In future, however, the streaming service will deviate from the chronological order: For the plot of the second season, those responsible have drawn on the fourth book, “The Fifth Witness”. The end of the second season already gave a hint as to which novel might find favor in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3. Now it’s official: the new episodes take on the fifth volume, “The Gods of Guilt”.
If you want to find out now what happens next, you can familiarize yourself with the novel series:
- “The Client” (Volume 1)
- “So Help Us God” or “The Law of the Road” (Volume 2, same content)
- “Trail of the Dead Girls” (Volume 3)
- “The Fifth Witness” (volume 4)
- “Gods of Guilt” (volume 5)
- “The Law of Innocence” (volume 6, so far only in English)
- “Resurrection Walk” (Volume 7, so far only in English)
What will happen in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3?
Warning: Spoilers follow for the end of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2
Reminder: At the end of season 2, Mickey Haller received a call from a new client named Julian Lacosse (Devon Graye), who is accused of murdering his girlfriend Giselle Dallinger. She had previously advised Lacosse to consult Haller if he was ever in trouble. As Mickey does not know the name Dallinger, he visits the mortuary. However, the murdered woman is Gloria Dayton (Fiona Rene), better known as sex worker Glory Days. Accordingly, the new episodes will be dedicated to her murder case.
Haller once successfully defended the call girl in court. After she revealed her backers, Dayton’s cocaine smuggling charges were dropped. However, she had actually gone to Hawaii afterwards and should not have been in Los Angeles. What’s the story behind the murder? Is the defendant Julian Lacosse really innocent? Does the court case at the time have anything to do with all this? And what are the consequences of the case for Haller himself?
The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 still has to answer these questions
It is also still unclear who ordered the beating of Mickey Haller in the second season. Haller also faced another near assassination attempt at the end of the season and was almost run over. While he himself still suspects Alex Grant (Michael A. Goorjian), Lorna (Becki Newton) and Izzy (Jazz Raycole) suspect that Lisa Trammell could be behind it all. But the answer may be “neither”. Perhaps it all has its origins in the Glory Days trial…
Executive producer Ross Fineman has already told Netflix that this will be Haller’s most difficult challenge:
“It’s going to be the toughest case he’s ever had, both professionally and personally. She was his girlfriend, someone he cared about, and he needs to know what happened to her. And he has the uncomfortable feeling that he may have been responsible in some way.”
Alongside lead actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Becki Newton as Lorna, Jazz Raycole as Izzy, Angus Sampson as Cisco and Yaya DaCosta as Andrea Freemann return to screens for season 3. The audience will also be able to look forward to a number of new faces.
