Ted Lasso Season 3: This “For All Mankind” star takes a role in the sequel

Don't miss

Ted Lasso Season 3 is a done deal. With Jodi Balfour (“For All Mankind“) the cast of the sports comedy gets prominent growth and it could go on with season 4.

  • The sports comedy “Ted Lasso” is a safe bet on Apple TV+. The streamer renewed the series for a Season 3 early on.
  • The new episodes will feature “For All Mankind” star Jodi Balfour in a larger recurring role.
  • Jason Sudeikis and Bill Lawrence are floating the idea of ending with Season 3, but producers Kip Kroeger and Liza Katzer would like to continue. So is season 4 coming after all?

With the 2021 Emmy Awards at the latest, it’s clear to every streaming fan that “Ted Lasso” is one of the most successful series on Apple TV+. While Apple’s streaming service has a comparatively small stage, the enthusiastic “Ted Lasso” followers should probably be the best advertisement for Apple TV+.

But what happens next after season 2 of “Ted Lasso”? Will there be a season 3 and will all the cast members return?

Ted Lasso Season 3: Release Date

Let’s start right with some good news: season 3 of “Ted Lasso” is already confirmed! Apple TV+ knows, of course, that the series with “Saturday Night Live” star Jason Sudeikis is one of the streaming service’s best-known flagships. A sequel was a sure thing.

Filming began in March 2022. Apple TV+ confirmed as much on Instagram. The tweet was in response to an image posted by Nike, which revealed a new partnership with the show and redesigned AFC Richmond jerseys. Apple TV responded to the tweet by saying, “New season. New Jerseys.”

Ted Lasso Season 3: Plot

So far, not much is known about the plot of season 3. The writers have been in the writing process since September 2021 and series creator Sudeikis is reportedly even keeping his co-actors in the dark about the fate of their characters.

The season two finale made a bit of a time jump. After seeing Nate leave the team, we know that he is on the coaching staff (perhaps as head coach?) of West Ham, which was bought by Rebecca’s unfaithful ex-husband. In season two, Nate has gone from a sympathetic outsider to a hateful, seething individual who wants to be in the spotlight as a coach. Season three will undoubtedly follow the path of AFC Richmond and West Ham.

It’s unclear what the status of Keeley and Roy’s relationship will be. Rebecca and Sam’s relationship also seems to have the potential for a great third season. Dr. Sharon’s heavy drinking will continue to be an issue in season 3. The role of Trent Crimm (from The Independent) will certainly be addressed.

In any case, you’ll learn more of the show’s characters. “It goes deeper into the backstories,” said producer Kit Kroeger. “And knowing the guys, there will be a number of surprises. Things you didn’t see coming, some curveballs,” added producer and director Declan Lowne.

Ted Lasso Season 3: Cast

Season 3 will see the return of all the familiar characters from “Ted Lasso.” Many of the actors recently negotiated better contracts, for example Jason Sudeikis will receive 1 million US dollars per episode in the future.

Ed Sheeran is also expected to make a guest appearance. Sheeran, a self-confessed “Ted Lasso” fan, has already confirmed that he will write a new song for season 3. It is therefore very likely that Sheeran himself will also appear in the new episodes. Here, his appearance also makes more sense than in “Game of Thrones,” where he rather pulled viewers out of the action as a singing soldier.

“For All Mankind” star Jodi Balfour joins Ted Lasso’s troupe as the first new actress. Balfour will play Jack, a charming venture capitalist. Details about her character as well as her role in the plot are being kept under wraps by Apple so far.

Ted Lasso: Will there be a season 4?

Lead actor Jason Sudeikis has been talking for some time that the plot of “Ted Lasso” was always intended to run for three seasons. Because they would have once worked out a plan for this runtime. Jason Sudeikis even referred to the 2nd edition of the series, which ended on October 8, 2021, as “The Empire Strikes Back,” which should make it clear not only to “Star Wars” fans that it would then be over after 3 seasons.

Brendan Hunt, actor of Coach Beard, is of the opinion that the story should not be extended convulsively, although he is of course pleased with the great success. Bill Lawrence, who created “Ted Lasso” together with Sudeikis, also does not assume a 4th season.

I think the only way a fourth season of “Ted Lasso” could exist would be if Ted coached a team that played just a block away from Jason [Sudeikis’] house, you know? He’s got young kids.

“Someone always said there would only be three seasons,” “Tad Lasso” producer Kit Kroeger said in an interview with Deadline at the 2022 Producers Guild of America Awards. “That’s the question,” laughed producer Liza Katzer. “We don’t know. We hope it continues … originally we were only here for three seasons. But right now, everything is still up in the air.”

Producer Bill Lawrence

Lawrence thus lets slip that Sudeikis’ would probably hate to be away from his family for another year, after all, “Ted Lasso” is filmed in the UK.

However, these plans were also made before “Ted Lasso” proved to be such a huge success. So will the series continue after season 3? “Ted Lasso” showrunner Bill Lawrence didn’t want to rule that out now, at least once, in an interview with Deadline.
