Moon Knight Season 2: Everything you need to know

Don't miss

After the finale of season 1, “Moon Knight” has a lot of potential for a sequel. AWSMONE reveals why a second season is very likely and what it could be about.

Season 1 of “Moon Knight” is over – or was it already the complete series? It’s unclear because there are increasing indications that the Marvel production, which was once announced as a miniseries, could return with another season.

AWSMONE tells you how likely Moon Knight season 2 is and when the new episodes could appear, what would happen in them, and everything else that interests you after the preliminary finale of “Moon Knight” on Disney+.

What is the Ending of Moon Knight?

Moon Knight Season 1 ended with a bang, literally. In the final episode, titled “Gods and Monsters”, Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac) finally embraced his alter ego as Moon Knight, the avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu (Ethan Hawke). He teamed up with his other personalities, Steven Grant and Jake Lockley, to stop Ammit (May Calamawy), the devourer of souls, from unleashing chaos in the underworld and the living world.

However, in a twist of fate, Marc realized that Khonshu was not his ally, but his enemy. Khonshu had manipulated Marc into becoming his vessel and planned to use him to overthrow the other gods of Egypt. Marc decided to rebel against Khonshu and fought him in a brutal battle that ended with Marc stabbing Khonshu in the chest with an ancient dagger.

As Khonshu lay dying, he warned Marc that he had made a grave mistake and would face the other gods’ wrath. Marc then returned to the land of the living, where he reunited with his girlfriend Layla (Gaspard Ulliel) and his friend Frenchie (Alexander Siddig). He also discovered that he had inherited Khonshu’s powers and could control the moon’s phases.

Is Moon Knight coming back in 2023?

The short answer is: we don’t know yet. The long answer is: it depends on several factors. Disney+ has not officially renewed Moon Knight for a second season, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. The show has received positive reviews from critics and fans alike, generating a lot of social media buzz. It also fits into the larger narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is expanding its roster of heroes and villains on both the big and small screens.

A release anytime in 2024 is by far the least likely scenario for Moon Knight Season 2. Even if production somehow began right now, it would still be near-impossible for Marvel Studios to pull off and fit into the slate.

Will there be a Moon Knight Season 2?

Despite these obstacles, there is still hope for Moon Knight Season 2. The show’s creators have expressed their interest in continuing the story of Marc Spector and his multiple personalities. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Jeremy Slater said:

“We definitely have ideas for where we want to take Marc and his friends in season two, if we’re lucky enough to get one. There are so many great Moon Knight stories from the comics that we haven’t touched yet, and so many cool villains that we haven’t introduced yet. We also have some big surprises in store for fans who think they know where this story is going.”

Slater also hinted that Moon Knight Season 2 could explore more of the mystical side of the Marvel universe, and possibly crossover with other shows or movies featuring magic or gods.

“Moon Knight is part of a larger tapestry of stories that Marvel is telling right now, and there are definitely connections and threads that run through all of them. I can’t say too much without spoiling anything, but let’s just say that Marc’s journey is far from over, and he might encounter some familiar faces along the way.”

Moon Knight Season 2 Release Date: Speculation!

For one, Marvel has not officially announced a release date for Moon Knight season 2 yet, but we can make some educated guesses based on the production schedule of the first season. Moon Knight season 1 began filming in April 2021 and wrapped up in October 2021, with a premiere date of March 30, 2022.

Secondly, filming doesn’t appear anywhere close to starting up yet, and it would need to be just around the corner if it hopes to make it onto Disney+ in early 2024.

Not to mention, next year’s MCU Disney+ release slate is already filled to the brim. Ironheart, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and the 18-episode Daredevil: Born Again are all expected to release in that window, meaning more than half the year is already occupied for weekly releases.

That’s not including Echo, which might also be included if the project doesn’t make it out of the gates by the end of 2023 – although the latest update offers positive signs.

Moon Knight Season 2 Plot: What’s next?

The plot of Moon Knight season 2 is also a mystery at this point, but we can make some predictions based on the events of season 1 and the comics. Season 1 ended with a shocking twist: Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac), the former mercenary who became Moon Knight after being resurrected by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu (F. Murray Abraham), discovered that he was not the only one with multiple personalities. His love interest Layla El-Faouly (May Calamawy), a journalist who helped him uncover a conspiracy involving a cult led by Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke), also had dissociative identity disorder (DID), and one of her alters was none other than Harrow himself. The final scene showed Layla/Harrow escaping from custody and vowing revenge on Marc/Moon Knight.

Season 2 could explore the aftermath of this revelation and how it affects Marc’s relationship with Layla and his other alters: Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac), a wealthy entrepreneur who funds Moon Knight’s activities; Jake Lockley (Oscar Isaac), a taxi driver who gathers information from the streets; and Mr. Knight (Oscar Isaac), a white-suited detective who works with the police. Season 2 could also introduce new villains and allies from the comics, such as Bushman, Marc’s former friend turned enemy; Marlene Alraune, an archaeologist and Marc’s ex-wife; Frenchie DuChamp, Marc’s loyal pilot and partner; and Werewolf by Night, a werewolf who was Moon Knight’s first adversary and later ally.

Moon Knight Season 2 Cast: Who’s in it?

The cast of Moon Knight season 2 has not been confirmed yet, but we can assume that most of the main cast from season 1 will return, unless their characters were killed off or written out. This means that Oscar Isaac will reprise his roles as Marc Spector/Moon Knight, Steven Grant/Mr. Knight, and Jake Lockley; May Calamawy will return as Layla El-Faouly/Arthur Harrow; F. Murray Abraham will voice Khonshu; Ethan Hawke will play Arthur Harrow/Layla El-Faouly; Ann Akinjirin will play Bobbi, Marc’s therapist; David Ganly will play Billy, Marc’s friend and mechanic; Khalid Abdalla will play Selim, Layla’s brother and a police officer; Gaspard Ulliel will play Bek, a mysterious assassin; Antonia Salib will play Taweret, an Egyptian goddess; Fernanda Andrade will play Yatzil, a cult member who betrayed Harrow; Rey Lucas will play Crawley, a homeless informant; Sofia Danu will play Donna, a nurse who helped Marc; and Saba Mubarak will play Isis, an Egyptian goddess.

Of course, there could be some new additions to the cast as well, depending on the plot of season 2 and the characters from the comics that might appear.

Moon Knight Season 2 Trailer: Is there a teaser?

However, given the popularity and critical acclaim of the first season and the cliffhanger ending, it seems very likely that Moon Knight will return for a second season.
