Trailer of the His Dark Materials Season 3

HBO has now released an official trailer for the third season of “His Dark Materials”. Here we see Asriel getting ready for the upcoming war and it becomes clear that he will risk everything for his beliefs. Meanwhile, the Magisterium is doing everything they can to get their hands on Lyra. Lyra and Will, in turn, embark on a dangerous journey.

Earlier, the BBC also released an official trailer for the upcoming final season of the fantasy series. This shows somewhat different images than the new HBO trailer.

To shorten the waiting time a little more, HBO had recently also published first images of the new season. Among other things, we get a first glimpse of the angels, some of whom we will meet in the new season.

Season 3 will, as expected, adapt the content of the 3rd novel in the “His Dark Materials” book series. This one is titled “The Amber Telescope” (in the original: “The Amber Spyglass”).

Speaking to RadioTimes magazine, producer and production designer Joel Collins has already revealed that a 3rd season, compared to the first two seasons, would be far “stranger and more complex.” In terms of “plot, imagery and storytelling,” viewers can expect an even more sophisticated journey.

According to showrunner Jack Thorne, the institution of the Magisterium and the character of Father MacPhail in particular will be explored more in another sequel. MacPhail is just establishing himself as a prominent figure of the Magisterium in season 2, and in season 3 he will make some decisions that will take him beyond good and evil.

We’ll also find out what happens to Lyra and Will, as they find themselves in great danger in book 3. With the help of their friends, they go to the world of the dead. In addition, the mortal worlds are now in a fierce conflict. Will the children still be able to prevent the worst?

The arrival of the angels will also play a central role, as Lord Asriel is able to convince several of the alien creatures to support him in his war against the Authority. The Authority, which in the books is based on the biblical God, is seen by Asriel as a dictator who has enslaved humanity.

Now Asriel wants to finally throw off the shackles imposed on him and all mankind by the Authority. In doing so, he will not shy away from violence or a possible war with countless casualties.

Cast and Production of His Dark Materials Season 3

Even before the official “go” on the part of the BBC and HBO, showrunner and scriptwriter Jack Thorne let slip that already planned on a 3rd season of “His Dark Materials”. When the series was then officially extended, Thorne of course did not let himself be deprived of continuing to be involved in the last part of the story. And Jane Tranter will also be back on board as a producer for season 3.

So far, it can be assumed that the members of the main cast of “His Dark Materials” will also return for a 3rd season. First and foremost, Dafne Keen, who plays the main character Lyra, will also step into her role one last time in the final season.

In addition, Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter and Amir Wilson as Will will also return in “His Dark Materials” Season 3. Also joining the cast are “Fleabag” star Andrew Scott as Will’s father John Parry, Simone Kirby as Dr. Mary Malone, Ruta Skadi as Jade Anouka, and actor Will Keen as Father MacPhail.

Most certainly, James McAvoy will also be seen in his role as Lord Asriel. And not only that! Although in the last two seasons we had seen rather little of Lord Asriel, but now we will get deeper insights into Asriel’s machinations and plans. Lyra’s father is now embarking on an open war against the Authority and will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

In “His Dark Materials” Season 3, we will also get to see some new faces once again. Actors Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Commander Ogunwe); Jamie Ward (Father Gomez); Sian Clifford (Agent Salmakia); Jonathan Aris (Commander Roke) and Amber Fitzgerald-Woolfe (Ama) will also play roles in Season 3.

And also the rebellious angels Balthamos, Baruch and Xaphania, who will play a major role in the upcoming episodes, have finally found their actors with the actors Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (“Justice League)”, Simon Harrison (“Endeavour”) and Chipo Chung (“Into the Badlands”).

Unfortunately, the dubbing voice of Lord Asriel’s snow leopardess daemon Stelmaria had to be recast. Stelmaria was previously voiced by actress Helen McCrory (“Peaky Blinders“), but she tragically died in 2021 after a long bout with cancer.
