Gangster boss Scar (Chidi Mokeme) rules his neighborhood with an iron fist and hires himself out as a pimp. But several of his prostitutes want to escape the ruthless criminal, including Shalewa (Nancy Isime), who was given to the gangster by her father because he had run up huge debts to him. But escaping the merciless grip of the ruthless criminal is anything but easy. But then the power struggles and vendettas escalate. Will the criminal feuds continue in “Shanty Town” season 2?

Shanty Town season 2: Socially critical thriller series
Known as favelas in Brazil and Villa Miseria in Argentina, slums in Nigeria are known as “Shanty Town”. Characterized by improvised shelters made of wood and mud, these isolated places are usually not connected to regional infrastructure and often lack gas, electricity and running water supplies. Works such as “Slumdog Millionaire” and “City of God” have already used these precarious conditions for their dramatic and socially critical stories. The thriller format “Shanty Town”, which was initially planned as a feature film, as Shock reports, was broadcasted as a six-part mini-series via Netflix on January 20, 2023, now also strikes this socio-critical tone. The thriller series drastically portrays crime and corruption in the Nigerian metropolis of Lagos. Whether “Shanty Town” will continue with a second season has not yet been confirmed or denied, but as the thriller-drama format is obviously designed as a mini-series, it should not be assumed that the Netflix production will get another season.
