Lazarus is an upcoming Japanese anime television series that is being directed by Shinichiro Watanabe. Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick is also part of the team. Studio Mappa, well known for animes like ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ and ‘Attack on Titan’ are collaborating with Adult Swim and Sola Entertainment for the series.
Lazarus was announced by Adult Swim on July 20, 2023. The brand-new anime franchise has created quite some hype among the fans and with MAPPA behind the anime, we can almost guarantee that it will be a hit. Here’s everything you need to know about Lazarus.
Lazarus Release Date
The official trailer for Lazarus was released at Adult Swim’s ‘Toonami on the Green panel’ at San Diego Comic-Con. During the presentation, the production staff stated that the project was planned to be completed by 2024, but no official release date was announced.
We can expect the series to be released by late 2024. The series will have 13 episodes in it.
What to Expect in Lazarus?
As per Adult Swim, the series is set in 2052, when mankind has been freed from all sickness and pain. Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug called Hapuna for which he has won the Nobel Prize. Peace and prosperity prevail for now.
Three years later, Dr. Skinner makes an evil revelation that Hapuna has a side effect, everyone who has taken the vaccine will die in 3 years. As a response to this, a special task force of 5 agents, called Lazarus. They aim to find Skinner and develop a vaccine before the time runs out.
MAPPA is responsible for the animation while Sola Entertainment will be doing the basic production. Apart from this, the rest of the plot of the anime remains under wrap for now.
