Citrus is a Yuri manga series written and illustrated by Saburouta. It tells the story of Yuzu Aihara, a fashionable and rebellious girl who transfers to a new all-girls school after her mother remarries. There, she meets Mei Aihara, the beautiful and strict student council president, who turns out to be her new stepsister. The manga was serialized in Comic Yuri Hime from November 2012 to August 2018 and has been licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment. A 12-episode anime adaptation by Passione aired from January to March 2018.
Will there be Citrus Season 2?
Many fans of the anime are eagerly waiting for a second season of Citrus, but there has been no official announcement yet. However, there are some reasons to be optimistic about the possibility of Citrus Season 2. First of all, the manga has enough material for another season, as the anime only covered the first four volumes out of ten. Second, the manga has a sequel series called Citrus Plus, which started in December 2018 and is still ongoing. This means that there is more story to explore and adapt in the future.
Third, the anime was well received by both critics and viewers, and has a loyal fanbase that supports the franchise. Fourth, the anime ended on a cliffhanger that left many questions unanswered, such as the fate of Mei’s arranged marriage and the development of Yuzu and Mei’s relationship. Therefore, it is likely that the anime studio and the manga publisher will want to continue the anime to satisfy the fans and promote the manga.
Citrus Season 2 Release Date
Since there is no official confirmation of Citrus Season 2 yet, it is hard to predict when it will come out. However, based on some assumptions, we can estimate a possible release date. Assuming that the anime studio Passione will be in charge of the second season, we can look at their schedule and see when they have a free slot.
Passione is also responsible for another anime project: High School DxD Season 5. Which is expected to air in 2024. Of course this is also speculation, which means that Passione will not have time for Citrus Season 2 this year.
However, if they start working on Citrus Season 2 after finishing this project, they might be able to release it in 2024 or 2025. Of course, this is just speculation and there are many factors that could affect the production and release of Citrus Season 2, such as the availability of staff, budget, demand, etc.
Where Can You Watch Citrus?
If you want to watch or rewatch Citrus Season 1, you can find it on various streaming platforms. The anime is available on Crunchyroll and Funimation with English subtitles and dubbing. You can also buy or rent the episodes on Amazon Prime Video.
Citrus Season 2 Plot
The plot of Citrus Season 2 will depend on how closely it follows the manga. If it does, then we can expect it to cover volumes 5 to 10 of the original manga series, as well as some chapters from Citrus Plus. The main focus of Citrus Season 2 will be on Yuzu and Mei’s relationship after they confess their feelings for each other at the end of Season 1. However, their romance will not be smooth sailing, as they will have to face many challenges and obstacles along the way. Some of these include:
- Mei’s grandfather’s disapproval of their relationship and his insistence on Mei’s arranged marriage with a man.
- Yuzu’s struggle to balance her love life with her school life and her friendship with Harumi.
- Mei’s difficulty to express her emotions and communicate with Yuzu.
- The arrival of new characters who will interfere with Yuzu and Mei’s relationship, such as Sara Tachibana (a girl who falls in love with Mei at first sight), Nina Tachibana (Sara’s twin sister who tries to help Sara win Mei over), Mitsuko Taniguchi (Mei’s childhood friend who has feelings for her), Shiraho (Mitsuko’s girlfriend who dislikes Mei), and Ume Aihara (Yuzu and Mei’s mother who returns from her honeymoon).
- The development of other characters’ relationships, such as Harumi and Matsuri (Yuzu’s childhood friend who has a crush on her), Himeko (Mei’s cousin and student council vice president who loves Mei) and Kayo Maruta (a student council member who likes Himeko).
