Black Bird Season 1: Release Date, Cast, and More!

In the gripping American prison drama Black Bird, starring British actor Taron Egerton, convicted drug dealer Jimmy Keene is compelled to extract a confession from alleged serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser) while being held in a maximum-security facility.

Dennis Lehane, a best-selling author, created, wrote, and executive produced Black Bird. Michal R. Roskam, an Academy Award nominee who also acts as executive producer, helmed the first three episodes.

In addition to executive producing through Richard Plepler’s EDEN Productions, Lehane, Egerton, and Roskam also work with Bradley Thomas, Dan Friedkin, and Ryan Friedkin through Imperative Entertainment, Scott Lambert and Alexandra Milchan through EMJAG Productions, and James Keene and Kary Antholis through Imperative Entertainment.

Also directing are Joe Chappelle and Jim McKay. Apple Studios created the limited series for Apple TV+.

The series depicts how Jimmy made a deal with the devil to shorten his own prison term and is based on the true-crime biography In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption by Jimmy himself and Hillel Levin. His duty? to ascertain Hall’s reality. Hall may be giving Jimmy what he wants to hear, though.

In Black Bird, Taron Egerton plays Jimmy Keene, the son of a decorated police officer and a former high school football hero. But when he is convicted of drug trafficking and given a 10-year term in a minimum-security facility, his life implodes.

Jimmy is given the opportunity of a lifetime following his sentencing: either remain where he is and serve his entire sentence without the possibility of release, or check into a maximum-security facility for the criminally insane and become friends with alleged serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser).

The only way Jimmy can escape is to get a complete confession, but he is aware that doing so will put his life in danger.

Is Jimmy able to obtain the truth from Hall, or is the alleged murderer just making stuff up? And can the drug dealer overcome his ambition to bring a killer to justice?

Black Bird Release Date Announced

On Friday, July 8, 2022, Black Bird makes its debut on Apple TV Plus (Pachinko Season 2) in every country. The six-episode psychological thriller premieres globally on July 8 with the first two episodes, and then each Friday through August 5 2022, one new episode will be released.

Taron Egerton as Jimmy Keene

In addition to portraying Elton John in Rocketman and Eddie The Eagle in the 2015 skiing biopic, Taron Egerton, who plays the primary role of prisoner Jimmy Keene, has experience playing real-life personalities. In addition to his roles in the Kingsman movies and the 2018 Robin Hood remake, Taron played Robin of Loxley. Additionally, he provides Johnny’s voice in Sing and Sing 2. In the animated series Moominvalley on Sky, he also gave the Moomintroll’s voice.

Paul Walter Hauser as Larry Hall 

The character of alleged serial killer Larry Hall is played by Cobra Kai actor Paul Walter Hauser. He appeared in I, Tonya and played Horace in the Cruella movie. Additionally, he appeared in Super Troopers 2, Songbird, and BlacKkKlansman.

Greg Kinnear of House of Cards and the late Ray Liotta of Goodfellas and Marriage Story, who tragically passed away before Black Bird’s release, both have roles in the film as Brian Miller. Big Jim Keene, played by Ray, is Jimmy Keene’s father. As Lauren McCauley, Sepideh Moafi (Notorious) also has the lead role.
