Powerhouses Oppenheimer and Barbie will go head to head, In what can be one of the greatest release weekends for modern cinema, with the odds being in favor of the doll. Theaters are bound to explore as both movies are set to release on July 21st.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie are 2 of the most, if not, the most anticipated movies this year. Barbie is based on the iconic fashion doll whereas Oppenheimer is a biographical thriller based on the American physicist, J.Robert Oppenheimer.
Christopher Nolan who previously worked with Warner Bros. for years and created masterpieces, (e.g. Dark Knight Trilogy) announced in September 2021 that he will be working with Universal Pictures for Oppenheimer. Barbie, which Warner Bros. produces was given the same release date as Oppenheimer recently.
Speculations arise that this was an intentional move by Warner Bros. who had a fallout with Christopher Nolan. Though the movies are completely different from each other, fans and critics have pinned them against each other.
Initially, Oppenheimer was considered to outperform Barbie, but with the buzz that Barbie has created online, the tide has definitely turned in the doll’s favor.
The upcoming American comedy is directed by Greta Gerwig and will star Hollywood heart-throbs Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken. The cast also includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.
The film was initially announced in September 2009 but over the years has changed production studios multiple times. Universal Pictures were the original studio before switching hands with Sony Pictures and later to Warner Bros. in 2018.
More than a year before its release, the movie was a phenomenon on social media. Glimpses of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the movie set fashion trends across the industry which came to be known as Barbicore. Barbiecore which involves bright neon pink colors became popular in fashion as well as makeup trends.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is an upcoming thriller about J.Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist who helped the United States develop the first nuclear weapons.
Nolan who is considered one of the best directors of all time, has gone above and beyond for the filming of Oppenheimer, a thing which he does in almost every movie. Oppenheimer was filmed on a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film, a first of its kind.
Christopher Nolan’s movies have always been known to be as realistic as possible with very minimal to no use of CGI in his movies. The film boasts of some of the best talents in Hollywood, including Cillian Murphy in the lead role, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh are just some of the few names.
The whole world is excited to see what goes down on July 21, 2023. Stay tuned for more.
